Mentions & notifications in chat
Getting someone's attention without being noise.
Mentions
Type @ and start typing. You can mention:
- A person — they get a notification pointing at your message, even in a muted channel.
- A role — everyone who holds it.
- @everyone (or
@here) — everyone in this conversation.
Mentions render as tinted chips, and a mention of *you* looks different from a mention of somebody else, so your own name is easy to spot while scrolling.
- Mention notifications
- On — a direct @-mention breaks through a muted channel.
- How to change
- Settings → Notifications.
- Do Not Disturb
- Silences notifications while it's on — see Notifications & Do Not Disturb.
Tip
Mention someone in the message that actually needs them rather than DMing separately — the notification carries the context, so they arrive already knowing what it's about.
