Chat commands & references

Slash commands and the # picker that links anything to anything.

Type / at the start of the message box for commands, or # anywhere to reference something else in Noots. Both autocomplete as you type.

Slash commands

/hoot <question>: Ask Hoot in the thread. It answers from your real workspace data — and only from what you're allowed to see.
/summarize: Summarize the recent conversation into a Noot. Bounded to roughly the last 300 messages or 30 days, and the summary tells you the range it read. /noot is an alias.
/link <Noot or task key>: Pin this conversation to a project — or to a single task, e.g. /link MA-14. Pins show in the header, and a pinned Noot becomes the default target for /summarize.
/task <text>: Add a task to one of your Noots without leaving chat.
/poll: Ask the channel a question and tally votes live.

Your workspace may also have add-on commands from the Marketplace, shown separately in the in-chat command list:

/standup: Drops a Yesterday / Today / Blockers template into the composer for you to edit and send.
/remind <time> <text>: Nudge yourself later — 30s, 10m, 2h, 3d; a bare number means minutes. /remind list shows what's pending, /remind cancel <n> drops one.

Note

A reminder is delivered to your notifications, so it reaches you even if you've closed the tab you set it in. The confirmation message always tells you when it will fire — if it says otherwise, believe the confirmation.

Why /summarize is bounded

Feeding a months-long channel to the AI would be slow, expensive and less accurate. Capping to the most recent slice keeps the summary grounded — and the result tells you exactly which messages it read.

Reference chips

Type # to open the picker, tabbed across Channels, Noots, Meetings, Contacts and Emails. Pick one and it drops a clickable chip into your message — a channel chip switches straight to that conversation; a Noot, meeting, contact or email chip deep-links to that item.

Does /hoot use my private data?

Hoot only reads what you already have access to, scoped to your organization. It can't reach a project you can't see, and it won't invent tasks or people that aren't there.

Can everyone see Hoot's answer?

Yes — /hoot posts both the question and the reply into the thread, so the whole channel gets the answer.
